Family, co-workers and Park Board members applaud March 7 after Dana Hampton presented Vernon “Bud” Havelka with a certificate of appreciation for his 14 years of service as parks superintendent. Havelka retired March 15. Hampton, Park Board president, said Havelka’s son, Terry, was hired March 14 to oversee park maintenance. Pictured are Jeff Kuhne, public works director  (far left), Havelka’s daughter, Stacy Misner, great-granddaughter, Chandler Nichols,  granddaughter Emily Nichols, park staffers Ivan Bock and John Walter, golf course superintendent Rodney Wilson, and Larry Tayloe, park board member. Havelka oversaw construction of the waterpark and walking trail extension among major projects completed during his tenure.
