Hermann woman, 55, fatally injured Saturday in crash with trolley bus

HERMANN — A Hermann woman who pulled into the path of a trolley bus carrying Octoberfest visitors Saturday died in the collision and her two granddaughters were injured along with seven passengers of the M.J. Kelly Company which operates the ride service.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report filed by Cpl. Cody Holzschuh, Paula S. Heidmann, 55, of Hermann, was northbound, exiting a parking lot, and was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Highway 100 West in a 2005 Hyundai Tucson. Heidmann pulled out in front of a 1994 Blue Bird bus being driven westbound on Highway 100 by Jeffrey W. Mueller, 51, of Hermann.

Mueller was unable to avoid Heidmann’s SUV, struck the vehicle and the bus went partially off the left side of the road. The crash occurred at 1:35 p.m. Oct. 20 approximately 850 west of 27th Street on the west side of Hermann near a grocery store and Dollar General retail plaza.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated the incident with assistance from the Gasconade County Sheriff’s Department and Hermann police.

Heidmann, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:40 p.m. by Gasconade County Coroner Benjamin Grosse. Her body was transported by Grosse to Toedtmann and Grosse Funeral Home in Hermann.

Injured in Heidmann’s vehicle were Autumn R. Kibbons, 13, of Pacific, and Grace R. Sullivan, 8, also of Pacific. Kibbons was transported by ambulance to Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia. Sullivan was transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia. The MSHP reports both had serious injuries.

Missouri residents injured on the trolley bus were:

• Amy N. Bevill, 26, Shelbyville, minor, transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital Washington; 

• Jessica A. Bucci, Creve Coeur, moderate, by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis; 

• Savannah J. Everett, 24, Columbia, minor, ambulance to Hermann Area District Hospital; 

• Emily E. Hahn, 24, St. Louis, moderate, ambulance to Mercy St. Louis;

• Rachel J. Hanson, 22, Branson, minor, ambulance to Mercy Washington; 

• The bus driver, Jeffrey W. Mueller, 51, Hermann, minor, transported by private vehicle to Hermann Hospital; and,

• Emily M. Wright, 25, Columbia, minor, ambulance to Hermann Hospital.
