Marred in an eight-game road losing streak going back to last year on the baseball diamond, Tyler Ahring’s Owensville Dutchmen had a chance to end it Thursday afternoon along Highway 100 against New Haven’s Shamrocks.

Already leading 5-1 through two innings, Ahring’s Dutchmen put up seven runs in the top of the third inning before going on to defeat New Haven 17-2 in four innings.

This marked their first victory on the road since posting an 11-1 win over Laquey’s Hornets last year at the Linn Tournament.

Before he even took the pitcher’s mound against the Shamrocks. Bryor Bogle got to help his own cause in the top of the first inning.

Opening the game being hit by a pitch, Bogle advanced to second on a Trevor Abernathy single before a passed ball moved him over to third base.

A walk to Brady Smith loaded the bases for Dutchmen clean-up hitter Drew Baumbach.

Running the count full, Baumbach lifted a RBI sacrifice fly to center field allowing Bogle to score giving OHS a 1-0 lead on the road.

During TC Fisher’s first at bat, Abernathy was retired trying to steal home bring the inning to a close.

Bogle nearly gave New Haven the lead in the bottom of the first. Pitching around three walks, Bogle kept the Shamrocks off the scoreboard in the first inning.

Looking to add to their lead in the top of the second, Owensville plated four runs while sending nine batters to the plate.

Tyler Heidbrink led it off with a single before Cody Linders and Javohntae Gates were both hit by pitches to load the bases for Sebastian Dixon.

Reaching on a fielder’s choice, Gates was retired at second base while Heidbrink scored doubling Owensville’s lead to 2-0.

After a Bogle fly out for the second out of the inning, a two-out rally ensued for the Dutchmen.

Abernathy walked to load the bases before Smith drove in two runs on a double to right-center field scoring Linders and Dixon.

Baumbach then reached on an error allowing Abernathy to score giving Owensville a 5-0 lead.

Two hits, a walk and a fielder’s choice led to New Haven’s first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning trimming the Dutchmen lead to 5-1.

Entering the top of the third inning, Owensville looked to get that run back.

They did and then some.

This time sending 11 batters to the plate, OHS plated seven runs expanding their lead to double digits by a 12-1 score.

Two-RBI doubles from Bogle and Smith highlighted the seven-run third inning for the Dutchmen.

Allowing a New Haven run in the top of the fourth inning, Owensville looked for five runs in the bottom half of the inning to end the game via the 15-run mercy rule.

Derek Brandt singled and scored the first of five runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Batting with the bases loaded, Smith cleared the bases with a three-RBI double making him the fifth player in MSHSAA baseball history with three doubles in one game.

Daxton Mehrhoff and Ethan Reed each singled for their first varsity hits with Reed’s ending the game when Smith scored.
