OHS wrestlers to open 2019 in tournaments

To open the 2019 portion of their season on the mats, Rod Barndollar’s Dutchmen wrestlers will compete in a pair of tournaments on Saturday, Jan. 5.

Staying closest to home will be the junior varsity grapplers competing at the Pacific JV Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

They will compete against other wrestlers from Fort Zumwalt North, Hazelwood East, Pacific, Parkway Central, Seckman, St. Charles, St. Clair, Sullivan, Union, Washington and Webster Groves.

No further information on this tournament was available at press time.

For the varsity wrestlers, their trip Saturday to the Ste. Genevieve Duals Tournament will mark their first and only trip to Dragon country as OHS was moved from district one to district two come early February.

Teams competing with the Dutchmen and host Dragons include St. Clair, St. James Miller Career Academy and Dexter.

Tournament action for the Dutchmen will begin at 9:30 a.m., with a dual against the Phoenix from Miller Career Academy out of the St. Louis area.

Round two will see the Dutchmen face the host Dragon before a 40-minute lunch break.

After lunch, Barndollar’s Dutchmen will face fellow Four Rivers Conference (FRC) foe St. James followed by a round-four dual with Mel Hughes’ St. Clair Bulldogs in a rematch from early December during a tri-meet at Union High School.

OHS will close their portion of the tournament in Dragon country against Dexter’s Bearcats

Following two tournaments the first weekend of January, both the Owensville junior varsity and varsity wrestlers will also compete in two separate events the second Saturday in January on the 13th.

Barndollar’s varsity grapplers will host the annual Owensville Varsity Wrestling Tournament while junior varsity wrestlers under Stephen Turner and Dustin Howard will venture north into Randolph County to compete in the Moberly JV Wrestling Tournament.

More details on both tournaments will be in next week’s Republican.
