Hosting the annual Owensville 8th Grade Girls Basketball Tournament at Owensville Elementary School, Flanagan’s squad capped a tripleheader of first-round action against Sullivan’s Lady Eagles Monday night.
Trailing 6-2 after one quarter, the Dutchgirls trailed 18-7 at halftime before falling to Sullivan 36-19.
Eighth-grade Dutchgirl basketball team members include Landry Watson, Madison Crull, Kiana Guerrero, Ella Gehlert, Emily Nichols and Abby Terry.
Peyton Lairmore is the team’s manager alongside coach Flanagan.
Down in St. James, Heidle’s seventh-grade Dutchgirls opened that tournament Monday night with a 36-23 victory over Hermann’s Lady Bearcats.
Advancing to the championship semifinals, Owensville took on the host Lady Tigers last night (Tuesday).
Falling 50-20, Heidle’s Dutchgirls will await the loser of the other semifinal tonight (Wednesday) between Union and Washington in the third-place game tomorrow (Thursday) night at 6:15 p.m., in St. James.
Seventh-grade Dutchgirls looking for additional third-place hardware to add to the OMS trophy case include McKenzy Echols, Grace Abel, Emma Daniels, Allysan Gooch, Audrey Quilacio, McKenna Edwards, Taylor Thompson, Kate Blankenship and Anya Binkhoelter.
Team managers helping Heidle include Payton Harness and Lily Steinbeck.
A complete recap of both Owensville squads from their respective tournaments will be in next week’s Republican.
