Saturday, Gerald will again witness the beautiful Parade of Lights sponsored by the Gerald Area Chamber of Commerce.

The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m., but spectators may want to get to town much earlier to take part in other planned activities.

Teens With a Cause will be hosting a dinner, bake sale and silent auction at the Gerald Firehouse, 405 W. Grandview from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. More details on this event can be found in an article elsewhere in this section.

Tina’s Treasures, 330 W. Fitzgerald, will be holding a holiday open house both Saturday from 10 a.m to 6 p.m.  and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Stop in for free popcorn, hot  drinks, and cookies while you shop.

The Bistro at the Mill is offering live music Saturday afternoon. They are also offering a free drink  with a meal purchase. They will be open until 8 p.m.

Just prior to the beginning of the parade, spectators can come in and warm up at Studio R, the Gerald Cafe and the Gerald Library. Each location will be offering hot drinks or cookies, some for sale, some free.

The parade itself is shaping up to be another good one. Santa  and Mrs. Claus will again lead the way on Old Whitey, the first truck purchased by the fire department. The Boy Scouts will follow carrying the flags.

Woody Bogler Trucking will again have a truck and trailer dominating the parade. Their entry has been a crowd pleaser in years past.

New to the parade this year will be the Gerald Elementary School’s choral group and art club. It will be exciting to see what kind of presentation this artistic group will come up with as their entry. The choral group will also perform in Legion Park after the parade.

Many other businesses, organizations and individuals have vowed to put in the time to create floats and other entries to help make the parade a success.

When the parade ends at Legion Park, Santa and his wife will settle in at the historic Depot. They will then visit with children and pose for photos.

While waiting in line, kids will get a cookie and hot chocolate from the Chamber. They can also choose a book from a selection provided by the Gerald Area Library. Treat bags will be given as well.

Saturday will be a great day to visit Gerald. Come early and stay late, there will be plenty to do.
