Owensville Planning and Zoning Commission members are scheduled to hear a request for approval of a final plat of the Gasconade County R-2 School District’s Administrative Field when they convene at 7 p.m. Monday, July 30, for a public hearing. The site is at Highways 28 and 19.

Landowners within 185 feet of the proposed 2.655 acre tract under consideration for a Casey’s General Store development will be notified through certified mail, according to city staff. The land is already zoned for commercial development.

The final plat, as presented, proposes to replat lots, originally given to the R-2 School District for a high school building which was constructed in 1923, into one tract of land comprising 115,633 square feet of land. That school ceased operations in 1953. The district’s administrative building and adjoining land along Walnut Street are not included in what appears to be a new Casey’s General Store development.

The R-2 School District cleaned up an old alley easement into the property off Walnut earlier this year through the vacation process with the city. No record of a sale of the property was evident this week. Casey’s Marketing, Co., Ankeny, Iowa, is listed as the developer on the plat document.
