Vienna snaps Dutchmen baseball home win streak

Having games at Sullivan and Potosi washed out due to wet field conditions, Tyler Ahring’s Owensville Dutchmen baseball team finally got to get back on the diamond Monday at Memorial Field against Vienna’s Eagles.

Falling behind 9-0 before their first turn at the plate, OHS was able to get four back but could not get any closer before seeing their six-game home winning streak snapped following a 13-5 loss to the visiting Eagles.

Coming in ranked seventh in Class 2 baseball by the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association (MHSBCA), the Eagles showed why by turning five hits, two errors, a walk and a hit batter into nine first-inning runs.

Owensville did their darnedest to answer the Eagles in the bottom of the first inning.

Bryor Bogle, Trevor Abernathy and Brady Smith recorded consecutive singles to start the inning.

Smith’s single allowed Bogle to score getting the Dutchmen on the board against the state-ranked Eagles.

Javohntae Gates followed with a one-out RBI single scoring Abernathy cutting Vienna’s lead to 9-2.

A Tyler Heidbrink walk loaded the bases before consecutive RBI singles from TC Fisher and Cody Linders scored Smith and Gates trimming the Eagle lead to 9-4 after a high-scoring inning of baseball.

Seeing Vienna answer with four runs in the top of the third inning, Owensville could only counter in the bottom of the fifth inning with a Smith triple that led to a Drew Baumbach RBI sacrifice fly giving the Dutchmen their fifth and final run of the game.
