Bland Fire Chief Jeff Robinson checks with Post Office officials in St. Louis about protocol for securing the facility.Constructed in 1961, the main entrance doorways to the Bland Post Office were blown into the lobby when a strong storm struck at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17. The rented facility's front windows were broken and caved inward. The roof was stripped from the structure and was strewn eastward in an alley running between Colorado and Kansas City avenues.
PO officials were delayed in reaching the scene due to strong rainstorms in the St. Louis region. All mail, money and stamps from the site were to be removed by USPS personnel from the heavily damaged structure some time Wednesday evening.
