A storm that destroyed the post office in Bland and downed trees and power lines in Owensville, also blew through Gerald last Wednesday around 3:45 p.m.
Gerald Police Chief Tommie Lowe said that most of the storm’s damage done was confined to the city’s southwest section.
“Three metal storage sheds were pulled up from yards along Grandview and blown around,” Lowe noted.
One of those sheds blew across Grandview and into a truck parked at the Ambulance Shed. A second became wedged in some mailboxes along the street. The third was just blown across the yard.
A large tree near the old telephone office in Legion Park was Snapped off and blown over, managing to take down a section of power lines as it fell. This left a portion of the town’s residents without power.
Crews from Ameren Missouri responded and had power restored around 7:30 p.m.
Tree damage was reported on Oak, Clay, and Sixth Streets. A back porch was destroyed on Old Potosi, and a tree in the yard of a home on Clay was also uprooted.
Lowe also noted another home on Clay and one on Meadow received considerable roof damage.
The fallen tree in Legion Park has been mostly removed. The stump and a few branches remain to be hauled away after the ground dries.
