James Fortner assumed ownership of Gerald’s only gas station and convenience store, QuiKorner, Monday morning. Fortner, 24, grew up in the Gerald area on Highway ZZ. He is the grandson of Stanley Sieker and the son of Joe Fortner and Teresa (Sieker) Fortner. He graduated from Owensville High School and has owned and operated The Liquor Cabinet in New Haven for the last year and a half.
Fortner purchased the business from Mick Doerr who had owned it since 1999.
Doerr continues as owner of the two Art’s Sports and Liquor, one in Gerald and the other in Owensville.
Fortner says he plans no major changes in the immediate future. He would like to spend the next few months getting to know his customers.
Until the lottery license can be transferred to his name, the store cannot sell any lottery products. Fortner expects the license to be issued within a week.
Expect to see his face when you visit the store, as he plans to put in a lot of hours as he learns his new business.
He is also spending some time planning his wedding. He and his fiancee, Megan Hobein - who is attending nursing school, have set the date for Oct. 19.
Once he has become familiar with the operations of his new business, Fortner says he may expand the food selections or make other improvements.
