Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies responded last Thursday morning to property near the intersection of Highway ZZ and  Highway Y, in reference to a possible suicide. 

The brother of the victim stated that he found a suicide note and located his brother deceased from a gunshot wound on their family farm, north of Gerald.  The victim is identified as 25-year old Eirk Joers.  No foul play is suspected.

Erik was the son of Larry and Patricia (Brauks) Joers, and the grandson of Hazel Joers and Joe and Elda Tomaczek, and the late Bob Brauks and Ray Joers all of Gerald. He was a 2006 graduate of Owensville High School and later graduated from Linn State Technical College. His obituary may be seen elsewhere in this issue.
