After a cool start, Sunday turned into a perfect day to enjoy some fun at Legion Park.
For vintage car lovers, those who appreciate beautiful things, or people who enjoy a trip down memory lane, the benefit car cruise-in sponsored by Yesterdays Cruisers was a delight.
There was plenty of food, music and other entertainment to keep all occupied during the five-hour event. A silent auction kept some attendees busy running back and forth checking on their bids.
Yesterdays Cruisers is an open organization of people who love old cars, trucks and motorcycles. It has become their mission to share their love of vintage vehicles with the public and at the same time raise money for local people facing health crises.
Before Sunday, the group had raised $53,100 by holding two cruise-ins each year, one in April and another in September.
This spring’s fund-raiser was to help Gerald woman Sandra (Claas) Gargus who was born with spina bifida and finally battled cancer.
Unfortunately, Sandy died before the event, but the car club vowed to continue with the plans for the benefit in order to help her family who was left pay the bills.
After the event, the family was presented with $5,123. This brings Yesterdays Cruisers grand total for fund-raising to $58,223. Every penny that is raised is passed on the beneficiaries, the club spends no money on advertising or other costs.
Part of the secret to the club’s success is each member’s willingness to do what they can to make each event a success.
