Brenda C. Howard, 52, of rural Owensville, told Owensville police she apparently fell asleep at the wheel Monday afternoon at around 3:10 p.m. as she was traveling south on Highway 19 approaching
Owensville High School. Howard’s Ford Explorer crossed over the center line, ran off into the ditch in front of the school and through a chain-link fence. Her vehicle narrowly avoided striking the mature Bradford pear tree, jumped a curb, and came to a stop partially in the school’s front lawn. No students were in the area at the time of the wreck. Howard’s vehicle traveled 320 feet off the roadway before coming to a stop; 12 sections of fence were torn down. She was taken by ambulance to Mercy Washington for treatment of back pain.
