Brenda C. Howard, 52, of rural Owensville, told Owensville police she apparently fell asleep at the wheel Monday afternoon at around 3:10 p.m. as she was traveling south on Highway 19 approachingOwensville High School. Howard’s Ford Explorer crossed over the center line, ran off into the ditch in front of the school and through a chain-link fence. Her vehicle narrowly avoided striking the mature Bradford pear tree, jumped a curb, and came to a stop partially in the school’s front lawn. No students were in the area at the time of the wreck. Howard’s vehicle traveled 320 feet off the roadway before coming to a stop; 12 sections of fence were torn down. She was taken by ambulance to Mercy Washington for treatment of back pain.
