State Rep. Tom Hurst shakes hands Saturday with Gasconade Manor resident Ella Shalk who was honored during a luncheon on the eve of her 100th birthday which was Sunday.
Hurst presented Shalk with a House proclamation which he read to her. Manor employee Kelley Kearns-Faupel (right) sings “A Glad And Happy Birthday” to Shalk, a song she sings for residents which she learned in church. Warren and Diane Smith of Rosebud embrace (top) during the song. Smith and Shalk’s son, David, who died more than 20 years ago from brain cancer, were good friends. He fondly recalled Shalk making them early morning breakfasts when they returned from gigging and hunting trips.
