Kiowa Wright (right) escapes the grasp of St. James’ Sean Hunter during their match last Thursday at 120 pounds.Coming off a solid showing at the Berkeley Wrestling Tournament in St. Louis, Rod Barndollar’s Dutchmen squad looked to continue their successful season on the road last Thursday.
Competing in a Four Rivers Conference (FRC) tri-meet against St. James and Pacific, Owensville split the meet falling to Pacific (41-39) and defeating St. James on criteria after ending the dual tied at 36-36.
Against the Indians, both teams were open at 106 pounds and 126 pounds. Scoring uncontested wins for the Dutchmen were A.J. Harrell (182 pounds), Nick Plocinski (195 pounds) and Dakoda Schuenemeyer (220 pounds).
Recording victories for OHS were Matt Pohlmann with an 8-5 decision at 113 pounds, Cody Dolles with a win by pin in 4:11 at 160 pounds, Dietrich Bombach with a win by fall in :49 at 170 pounds and Kaleb Collins winning by fall in :59 at 285 pounds.
Pacific won the remaining matches and narrowly defeated Owensville in the dual by a score of 41-39.
Looking for a split in the meet, the Dutchmen took on the host Tigers.
St. James and Owensville were both open at 106 pounds and Tiger wrestler Seth Thompson won by forfeit at 126 pounds.
St. James began the dual with wins in the first four bouts to take a 24-0 lead.
Dolles stopped the Tiger streak with a 6-5 overtime decision over Payton Woolsey at 160 pounds. Bombach pinned Caleb Martensen in :57 at 170 pounds and Plocinski won his match by pinfall in 5:20 moving up to 182 pounds.
Moving to 195 pounds against the Tigers, Harrell improved to 37-3 on the season pinning Jake Gleason in 1:13.
That win pulled OHS to within three points of the Tigers, 24-21.
Despite a loss by Schuenemeyer at 220 pounds, Collins recorded his second win of the night by fall in 1:56 to close the gap back to three points.
A 10-8 decision for Pohlmann over Danny McCarthy at 113 pounds tied the match at 30-30 going into the 120-pound match between Dutchmen freshman Kiowa Wright and St. James’ Sean Hunter.
Winning by fall in 4:21, Wright gave the Dutchmen a 36-30 lead before a forfeit win by Seth Thompson at 126 pounds tied the dual at 36-36.
Thanks to the fact that Owensville won seven of the 12 contested matches, the Dutchmen won the dual on criteria.
Owensville will end their regular season on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the 2012 Marshfield Duals.
Wrestling in Marshfield will start at 9 a.m., at last throughout the day in southwest Missouri.
