OHS speech/drama teacher leaves R-2 district abruptly for personal reasons

Owensville High School’s speech and drama teacher Tim Slagle resigned Sept. 17 from his position for personal reasons.

Gasconade County R-2 Superintendent Dr. Chuck Garner said Slagle had submitted his resignation to the board earlier Monday and requested discussion take place in closed session.

“There were several different plans there,” Garner said about Slagle’s plans for the future,” Garner said. “The board discussed it in closed session and decided to release him (Slagle) from his contract at the regular Monday night board meeting.”

The 2018-19 school year was Slagle’s third year teaching in the district. Garner was unsure of Slagle’s last day with the district without checking with the school, but said Sept. 14 sounded right. Slagle’s resignation was accepted on a 7-0 vote in executive session.

The resignation and vote were absent from the Sept. 17 meeting minutes, but Garner confirmed a discussion was held and a vote taken that evening. Slagel’s position is currently open. Garner said the district does not currently have someone in mind to take his place.

Resignations and employments approved at the Sept. 17 Gasconade County R-2 school board meeting and recorded for the minutes included:

• Resignations approved with 7-0 votes were Sarah Burgess (at the end of the 2018-19 school year), Jennifer Gillespie and Sue Lowe.

• Employments were Trina Seibert (cook), Rodney Dale Angell (Owensville Middle School custodian for the 2018-19 school year), and a list of substitutes as presented, pending clear background checks, training and completed paperwork.

The next school board meeting with be held at 7 p.m., Oct. 15.
