First-year Dutchmen head football coach Dustin Howard will make his head-coaching debut on Friday, Aug. 25 in a Highway 19 showdown on the road at Cuba High School against the host Wildcats with a 7 p.m., kickoff. Dutchmen fans will have to wait until Friday, Sept. 8 to see the orange and black at Dutchmen Field in their home opener against Warrenton’s Warriors.

Fun Time Shows employees made fast work Sunday and Monday setting up the carnival midway for the 76th Gasconade County Fair at Owensville’s Memorial Park. Threats of a pop-up thunderstorm early Monday afternoon never materialized but left a horizontal line of blue sky beneath cloud cover as a backdrop to the midway rides being set up and lights tested. The front, which crossed north of town, seems to have moved humid air out Monday afternoon, if only briefly, as hot conditions are predicted throughout the fair which begins tonight (Wednesday). Highs in the mid to upper 90s with heat a heat index of up to 105 degrees are expected.
