Finish in the top six.

That was the goal Saturday for the 24 Owensville Wrestling Club (OWC) wrestlers that got to compete on their home mats during the Missouri USA District 7 Wrestling Tournament at Owensville High School.

Out of the 24 grapplers in Owensville orange and black, 15 wrestlers earned the right to compete this Saturday during the Missouri USA Region D Tournament to be held at Moberly Area Community College.

In some cases, wrestlers just had to make sure they made weight. A handful of weight classes had six or less wrestlers meaning they were already assured of qualifying for regionals regardless of how they fared.

Easton Flowers won a district title in the 10-and-under 130-pound weight class as the lone grappler in the tournament.

Micah Duncan (14U 100 pounds) and Cael Walker (14U 155 pounds both won two matches on their way to district titles.

Three OWC wrestlers booked passage to regionals with second-place finishes in their respective weight classes.

Jasper Hane reached the championship match against Wentzville’s Phoenix Pettit before he lost a 12-1 major decision leaving him settling for second place.

Mallory Stockton scored wins by fall over Edward Boggs (South Callaway) and Jase Schulte (Owensville) to reach the title match of the 10U 120-pound division.

Pinned in 1:52 by Hallsville’s Lawton Arnold, Stockton settled for second place at districts.

Peyton Pohlmann also placed second in the 12U 115-pound division after losing two out of three matches by fall to Carver Safranski (Thunderbird Wrestling Club).

Will Coppedge pinned his way to the district title match in the 12U 125-pound division against Jefferson City’s Caleb Sapp before he was pinned in :16.

Two OWC wrestlers left the district with bronze medals for their third-place finishes.

Brayln Reed claimed third place in spite of two losses in the 12U 135-pound division while Connor Henderson pinned fellow OWC grappler Austyn Rosselli in :48 in the third-place match of the 12U 125-pound division.

Along with Rosselli, Owen Sells (8U 100 pounds) and Schulte (10U 120 pounds) also placed fourth.

Augustus Branson (10U 100 pounds) placed fifth while Greyson Conour (8U 70 pounds) and Mason Turner (12U 100 pounds) also advanced to regionals with sixth-place finishes.

Other OWC wrestlers competing at districts included Emmitt Duncan, Max Branson, Harley Geisler, Zach Burrow, Bentley Thomas, Parker Altemeyer, Tucker Henderson and Peyton Sells.
