Fresh off their first win of the season last Tuesday over Pacific, Taylor Payne’s Owensville Middle School (OMS) eighth grade Dutchmen went for two in a row Thursday night at home against Union.

Trailing 25-18 at halftime, Owensville could not get any closer in the second half before falling to the visiting Wildcats 48-31.

Eli Graham led the Dutchmen with a double double of 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Noah Caldwell added five points in addition to four each from Ethan Ditto, Connor Fisher and Jansen Loeb.

In the seventh-grade game, Union’s offense was too much for Shane Hunt’s Dutchmen as they also fell to the Wildcats, 52-19.

Logan Bailey led Owensville with seven points followed closely by Elias Medlock with five points.

Noel Bagiuo scored four points followed by Brandon Graham with two points and Ricky Marquez with one point.

Last Tuesday against Pacific, Payne’s OMS Dutchmen looked to pick up their seventh-grade counterparts after falling to the Indians 27-12.

Nursing a 23-21 lead after three quarters, both Owensville and Pacific played the fourth quarter to a 13-13 draw helping the eighth-grade Dutchmen put their first notch in the win column 36-34.

Leading 11-6 after one quarter, OMS was led by Loeb with five points followed closely by a 3-pointer from Caldwell.

Edging Pacific 9-8 in the second quarter, Owensville took a 20-14 lead into halftime.

Caldwell (5) and Loeb (4) combined to account for all of OMS’ nine second-quarter points.

Loeb finished the first half with nine points while Caldwell had eight first-half markers.

In spite of being outscored 7-3 by Pacific in the third quarter, Owensville still held a slim 23-21 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Ethan Ditto hit a pair of free throws while Caldwell added another free throw to account for OMS’ three third-quarter points.

Playing the final six minutes to a 13-13 draw, Loeb and Caldwell each scored four points in the fourth quarter helping Owensville hold on for the victory.

Loeb and Caldwell each finished with 13 points to lead the eighth-grade Dutchmen in scoring. Ditto added six points followed by four markers from Eli Graham.

In the seventh-grade game against Pacific, Adam Wilson and Chase Weirich both scored five points apiece leading Hunt’s Dutchmen.

Falling to Washington 25-13 last Monday on the road, Weirich led the seventh-grade Dutchmen with six points.

In the eighth-grade game, OMS also fell to Washington 37-28 behind a team-high 10 points from Nick Abel.
