Justin Smith of Central Missouri Excavating Contracting in Belle began removing concrete slabs Monday from the parking lot and driving lanes of the former Hardee’s site in preparation for construction of a new Taco Bell restaurant. Smith said Monday morning he expects to have the building removed by the end of the week but was waiting for an electric transformer to be pulled by Ameren Missouri before he could proceed with demolition of the structure. The new building is expected to be completed within 65 days of the removal of the existing structure. As of Tuesday afternoon Smith was still working to remove the concrete on the east side of the existing building.
