After achieving school history on the hardwood, Owensville High School’s Dutchmen and Dutchgirl basketball teams received plenty of postseason recognition at the conference, district and state levels.
Seeing her cousin Emma Daniels earn All-State honors from the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) last year, Dutchgirl senior guard Ali Daniels duplicated the feat being one of 20 Missouri Class 4 girls basketball players from throughout the state to be recognized.
In addition to her All-State selection from the MBCA, Daniels was also named to the Central Missouri Media All-District 1st Team for Class 4 Girls.
She was also selected as the MBCA Class 4, District 9 Player of the Year in addition to being named the Four Rivers Conference (FRC) Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
Racking up a team-high 367 points during her senior season, Daniels averaged a team-leading 13.6 points per game for the Dutchgirls who ended their regular season at 21-6.
Reaching double digits in 20 of their 27 games, Daniels scored a season-high 21 points in their FRC opener against St. Clair.
She also recored two double doubles during her senior season going for 19 points and 10 rebounds against the St. Pius X (Festus) Lady Lancers during the Peoples Bank Holiday Classic at Sullivan High School prior to Christmas.
Her other double double came in FRC play where she hit for 14 points and 12 rebounds against Hermann.
Dishing out a season-high seven assists against Linn in mid-January, Daniels also recorded nine steals in FRC action against New Haven.
Fellow Dutchgirl senior Camryn Caldwell also earned All-FRC and Central Missouri Media All-District 1st Team honors.
She was also selected along with Daniels to the MBCA Class 4, District 9 All-District Team.
Scoring in double figures during 16 games, Caldwell posted a season-high 24 points against Linn.
Saving her best rebounding effort for late in the season, Caldwell pulled down a season-high eight rebounds in the MSHSAA Class 4, District 9 Tournament title game against California.
Late in FRC action, Caldwell dished out a season-high six assists in games against Pacific and Union. She also had a season-high four steals against Pacific.
Overcoming numerous injuries throughout her high school career, senior Brynn Wright was finally able to finish a full season on the hardwood.
Her postseason accolades included MBCA Class 4, District 9 honors in addition to being named to the All-FRC and Central Missouri Media All-District 2nd Teams.
Traditionally a sweet number, 16 was really sweet for Wright during her senior season in a Dutchgirl basketball uniform.
Of the 14 games she reached double digits in scoring, Wright scored 16 points in five contests against Fatima, Linn, St. James, New Haven and California.
Adding 12 rebounds against Fatima and 11 boards against New Haven, Wright also posted a pair of double doubles during her senior season.
Dishing out a season-high eight assists against St. Clair, Wright also recorded a season-best seven steals in Owensville’s regular-season finale against North County.
Rounding out Dutchgirl basketball’s quartet of honorees is senior Cameron Nowack.
Named to the All-FRC 2nd Team, Nowack amassed a season-high 12 points in two games against St. Clair and Hermann in FRC play.
On the glass, Nowack grabbed a season-best nine rebounds in their season opener against Macks Creek.
Three was a popular number in the assist department as she dished out that many dimes in four games against Macks Creek, Borgia, Principia and Union.
Defensively, Nowack recorded a season-high five steals against New Haven.
Spearheading an outstanding run of Dutchgirl basketball over the last two seasons, head coach John VanLeer was named the MBCA Class 4, District 9 and Class 4 Girls Central Missouri Media District Coach of the Year.
Four of Cullen VanLeer’s Owensville Dutchmen basketball players were also recognized at the conference and district level for helping the orange and black to their first district title since 1996.
Sophomore Chase Crosby was named to the MBCA Class 4, District 3 All-District Team in addition to the All-FRC and Central Missouri Media Class 4 Boys All-District 1st Team.
Leading the Dutchmen with 13.4 points per game, Crosby reached double digits in 20 of their 28 games.
Netting a season-high 26 points against Sullivan, he also hit a school record eight 3-pointers in that game.
Grabbing a season-best seven rebounds against Steelville, Crosby also dished out four assists in three contests against Fatima, Salem and Frontenac (Kan.).
Defensively, Crosby recorded six steals against Linn in mid-December.
Also named to the All-FRC 1st Team and Central Missouri Media All-District 2nd Team, senior Zaiden Gates became a force to be reckoned with on the glass during the home stretch of their season.
Gates posted a season-high 14 points in the district semifinals against St. James and in Class 4 sectional action against Clayton.
He also grabbed a season-best 19 rebounds against Union while adding 11 caroms against St. James giving his lone double double of the season.
Handling the basketball, Gates dished out five assists in three games against St. Mary’s Colgan (Kan.), Dixon and Pacific.
Gates also dished out a season-high five assists against Pacific.
Earning All-FRC 2nd Team honors and MBCA Class 4, District 3 All-District honors, sophomore guard Keigan Glaser posted a season-high 17 points helping the Dutchmen to their first win over Fatima in over a decade.
Grabbing a season-best six rebounds against Borgia, Glaser also posted season-highs with six assists and four steals against Sullivan.
Named the FRC’s Sixth Man, senior Jansen Loeb poured in a season-high 14 points against Southern Boone while also grabbing four rebounds in games against Salem, St. Clair and Hermann.
Loeb also dished out two assists in four contests against Union, Fatima, Linn and St. James.
In addition to his two assists against Fatima, he also recorded four steals against the Comets.
Placing second to Hermann in the FRC standings, Cullen VanLeer was named the MBCA Class 4, District 3 and Central Missouri Media Class 4 Boys District Coach of the Year.
