HERMANN — Surpassing 1,000 career points in an Owensville Dutchgirl basketball uniform, senior Ali Daniels looked to help the orange and black to their fourth Hermann Invitational Girls Basketball Tournament title in five years facing Lutheran St. Charles’ Lady Cougars Friday night at Hermann High School.

Held scoreless until a Brynn Wright 3-pointer with :52 for the opening quarter, the orange and black simply did not have the offense to match up with the Class 6, fourth-ranked Lady Cougars during their 68-43 setback.

Able to keep the deficit at around 25 points, Owensville simply could not string enough offense together to overcome the early deficit.

Fresh off a 20-point effort in their 46-35 semifinal win over Rolla, Daniels led the Dutchgirls with 15 points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists against the Lady Cougars.

Cameron Nowack also reached double figures with 11 points.

Camryn Caldwell nearly made it three double-digit Dutchgirls finishing with nine points.

Brynn Wright chipped in seven points and eight rebounds while Lainey Moss rounded out the Owensville scoring against Lutheran St. Charles with a second-quarter free throw for one point.

Jordan Speiser led Lutheran St. Charles with 24 points and four rebounds while Kennedy Stowers followed close behind with 23 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Cougars.

Semifinal action last Wednesday against Rolla saw the Dutchgirls erase a 13-5 first-quarter deficit with a 28-4 run encompassing the second and third quarters of their 46-35 victory over the eighth-ranked team in Missouri Class 6 girls basketball.

Scoring her 1,000th career point on a lay up at the 2:10 mark of the first quarter, Daniels finished with a game-high 20 points, five rebounds and three assists while Nowack nearly chipped in a double double of 10 points and nine rebounds.

Caldwell splashed home three first-half 3-pointers giving her nine points for the game.

Wright rounded out the Dutchgirl scoring against Rolla with seven points and seven rebounds.

Akaela Caquelin led Rolla with a double double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
