All-FRC, All-District duos for OHS hoops

With basketball season now officially in the books, postseason honors are starting to come in.

Following Four Rivers Conference (FRC) and district voting, the Dutchmen duo of Tyler Heidbrink and Brendan Decker in addition to the Dutchgirl duo of Anna Finley and Emma Daniels got the add patches to their letter jackets.

After All-FRC voting on the boys side, Decker and Heidbrink were both named to the All-FRC Boys Basketball Second Team.

“Tyler and Brendan both were deserving All-District and All-Conference players,” Dutchmen first-year head basketball coach Cullen VanLeer said. “I was super proud of them and their efforts throughout the season.”

Reaching double-digit scoring in 10 games, Heidbrink posted a season-high 26 points against Steelville’s Cardinals in the first round of the Owensville Tournament.

Decker’s season-high scoring game came against Linn in mid-December when he poured in 27 points on 10-15 shooting from the floor.

For the girls, Finley was an All-FRC First-Team selection while Daniels was named to the All-FRC Girls Basketball Second Team.

Surpassing 1,000 career points against Belle, Finley’s junior season was cut short by an ankle injury against Sullivan just prior to districts.

Before the injury, Finley reached double digits in scoring in all but three games she played in.

Her season high came against St. Clair in their Four Rivers Conference opener on the road when she dropped 35 points and pulled down nine rebounds against the Lady Bulldogs.

Earning All-FRC Second-Team honors as a freshman, Daniels also nearly scored in double digits in every game.

Dropping 25 points on Borgia during a 71-55 season-opening victory, Daniels added to that with a 26-point effort against Salem’s Lady Tigers back on January 19.
