On or off the basketball court, several area players were recently honored for their efforts by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA).
Meeting certain criteria, student-athletes were eligible for recognition either on the MBCA Academic All-State Basketball Team or their respective MBCA All-State Basketball Teams.
Out of 180 student-athletes named to the MBCA Academic All State boys and girls teams, six of them were from the Four Rivers Conference (FRC).
For the girls, you could call it an area Academic All-State triangle featuring Owensville junior Katelyn Landolt, Hermann senior Brianna Thomas and New Haven junior Meagan Holtmeyer.
On the boys side, it would be a FRC sea of red with a pair of St. Clair Bulldogs in seniors Nick Dierking and Calvin Henry along with St. James Tiger senior Andrew Branson who was also voted the FRC Player of the Year.
On the hardwood, a total of seven area players made their respective MBCA All-State Basketball Teams.
Area girls players selected included the Class 3 trio of Quincy Erickson (Hermann), Hannah Marcee (St. James) and Sydney Booker (Steelville). Class 4 girls selected were Union’s Reagan Rapert and Sullivan’s Mallory Shetley.
Steelville’s Tanner Diaz and Branson were also Class 3 selections on the boy’s side of the ledger.
