Altemeyer concludes 44-year banking career as Regions Bank closes its Owensville facility

Cheryl Altemeyer’s 44 and a half year career in banking ended Friday afternoon when Regions Bank closed its doors in Owensville for one final time.

“It’s absolutely crazy,” said Altemeyer as she removed her wall calendar and personal framed achievements. “I have been blessed being able to serve my customers over all these years. It was my pleasure. I’m the one who’s honored.”

She started as a teller with Capital Savings & Loan as a recent Owensville High School graduate in November 1976. That became Capital Savings Bank in 1990 and moved to the site at 211 West Lincoln from 210 South First. It became Union Planters in 1998.

She said she will miss helping elderly customers — many without computer access or skills — with their banking needs. She smiles as she talks about helping some balance their check books.

“It’s really been a blessing to be here this long,” she said.
