Ameren Missouri has filed a variance request with the Public Service Commission seeking authorization to allow customers to select their own billing due dates for utility services.

Ameren Missouri officials provided Missouri media outlets with the copy of the application and  accompanying tariffs submitted to the Missouri Public Service Commission by Union Electric Company, doing business Ameren Missouri.

“Ameren Missouri is requesting a variance from a Commission rule to enable it to more easily offer customers within its service territory the option to choose their own billing due dates,” according to Ameren’s Trina J. Muniz. “We are excited about being able to offer customers this option. We believe customers want more freedom to establish a due date that aligns with their budgets, and we want to provide them the ability to do so.”

This “Pick Your Due Date” option must be approved by the Commission and requires a variance from the Commission’s Service and Billing Practices rules (4 CSR 240 Chapter 13) regarding notice requirement for billing due date revisions (4 CSR 240-13.020(6)).  

“We are providing this information in compliance with 4 CSR 240-13.065, which requires us to provide a copy of this application to the ‘newspaper with the largest circulation in each county within the utility’s service area affected by the variance,’” Muniz noted in an email dated June 19. This filing with the PSC is mandated “for any requested variance from 4 CSR 240 Chapter 13 rules,” she noted.  It covers electric and natural gas services.
