Anna Marie Lydia Schmidt, 102, Owensville, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at Frene Valley Stonebridge Community of Owensville.

She was born Jan. 23, 1918, to Walter and Minnie (Moeller) Schmidt, in the farmhouse at Schmidt Third Creek Farm at Bland.

Lydia attended the one room Neese No. 37 School and completed high school studies by correspondence in 1947. While living on the farm, she learned the skills of piano playing and quilting. She continued quilting throughout her life. She attended Sanford Brown Secretarial School. She retired in 1983, after 32 years with UARCO (a business forms Co.) in St. Louis. She was a member of Samuel UCC in Clayton. She made her home in Maplewood for 60 years. She enjoyed traveling abroad and to all but one state of the 50 states. She resided at Frene Valley since 2013.

She was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Flora (Rudolph) Schmidt; niece, Erna (Schmidt) Thomas; and great-niece Pamela Thomas.

She is survived by niece Gloria (Schmidt) Ridder and husband Gene of Bland; nephew, Glenn Schmidt and wife Patricia of St. Charles; nephew-in-law, Major Thomas of Owensville; and many great and great-great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 14, at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Owensville with Pastor Jeff Groene officiating. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery at Old Woollam.
