Wins on the mat.

That is what Zach Bollmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl wrestlers were looking for Friday night hosting the Second Annual Owensville Dutchgirl Wrestling Invitational at Owensville High School.

Competing along with the Dutchgirls were Southern Boone, Blair Oaks, Capital City, Union and St. Francis Borgia.

For several wrestlers, once they made weight, they were guaranteed to medal as some weight classes only had two or three grapplers in it.

Sophomore Bailee Dare needed just six minutes and 35 seconds of mat time to win the 170-pound title on her home mat.

She recorded wins by fall over Blair Oaks’ Halie Eaton (5:37), Union’s Gianna Schreck (:33) and Owensville’s Ellie Thompson (:25).

Pinned by Union’s Josey Alfermann in 1:38, Dutchgirl sophomore Jenna Vandegriffe took second place at 105 pounds.

Fellow sophomore Elizabeth Adams settled for second place at 120 pounds after being pinned by Southern Boone’s Callie Bergthold in 4:36.

Adams did post wins by fall over Union’s Brianna Keiser (1:59) and Southern Boone’s Zafaran Satterfield (:51).

In spite of two losses at 125 pounds, Dutchgirl sophomore Carly Brown earned a third-place medal at 125 pounds.

For freshman Lily Barker, it will be an interesting winter as she is dual-sporting as a member of the both the Dutchgirl basketball and wrestling teams.

At 130 pounds, Barker was pinned in 1:52 by Southern Boone’s Hope Schweitzer as she settled for second place in her weight class.

Next on the mats for the Dutchgirls was 145-pound junior Mckenzy Echols.

Pinning Borgia’s Lauren Karch in 2:25, Echols placed third in her weight classes after being pinned by Blair Oaks’ Addy Winder (3:15) and Union’s Ella Woodside (2:25).

One of two seniors on the squad, Josie Gerlemann looked to keep a medal in town at 155 pounds.

Drawing a bye in round one, Gerlemann pinned Capital City’s Aarynrea Meyer in :13 before pinning Union’s Gracie Straatmann in 1:14.

In what turned out to be the championship match at 155 pounds, Southern Boone’s Addy Paisley pinned Gerlemann in 1:39.

In the 155-pound ‘B’ bracket, Anna Carlin settled for fourth place after being pinned by Blair Oaks’ Sam Lage, Southern Boone’s Neveah Gipson and Union’s Ashley Wright.

Rounding out the Dutchgirl wrestling line up Friday night was senior Kelby Schoenfeld at 190 pounds.

Drawing a first-round bye, Schoenfeld matched up in round two with Union’s Destiny Vlcek.

Quickly gaining control of the match, Schoenfeld pinned the Lady Wildcat grappler in :46.

Pinned later in the tournament by Southern Boone’s Lilly Seward and Blair Oaks’ Rylee Robinett, Schoenfeld earned the third-place medal at 190 pounds.

Owensville was open at 100, 110, 115, 135, 140 and 235 pounds.

Competing last night (Tuesday) at the Versailles Invitational, Bollmann’s Dutchgirls will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 1 with their Dutchmen counterparts in a triangular meet at Washington High School against the host Blue Jays and Rolla’s Bulldogs.
