Barn burns on Moore Road

Posted

At 12:44 p.m. Saturday, March 6, the Gerald-Rosebud Fire Department (GRFD) was dispatched for a report of a non-dwelling structure fire in 4600 block of Moore Road.

Fire crews found a large two-story barn fully involved in the blaze, according to Deputy Fire Chief Justin Haase. The barn was full of hay. A second alarm was immediately issued to bring in more man power. Firefighters from Owensville, Beaufort-Leslie and Sullivan fire departments arrived on the scene to assist. A crew from New Haven-Berger stood by at the GRFD Station 2, while the local department was at the fire.

The barn fire, and a secondary brush fire it created, were listed as under control by 1:51 p.m. after an extensive attack by the firefighters.

One member of the local department was taken to the hospital for possible heat exhaustion. He was treated, released and is now fine, according to Haase.
