Bernice Helen Rice, 78, of Rosebud passed away at Gasconade Manor on Friday, March 10, 2023, after bravely fighting cancer for several years.
She was born to Henry and Helen (Westholz) Krause on October 3, 1944.
She married Harlond J. Rice on March 17, 1973, in Rosebud, Mo. The couple were blessed with one son, Daniel Joseph.
She obtained her early education in Bland and then attended Owensville High School and graduated in 1962. She was excited to be able to attend the 60th anniversary of their graduation last year. She loved visiting with her former classmates.
Bernice is survived by her son, Danny, other relatives and many friends who she loved very much.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlond, her parents, brother-in-law Robert (Barbara) Rice, sisters-in-law, Mildred Decker, Mary Rice and Norma Walters and many aunts and uncles.
Bernice loved older country and Gospel music. Her father was a radio performer and also entertained at fairs and special occasions. She loved to listen to his older recordings and dress in the costumes he wore. Unfortunately, she lost her dad when she was 11.
She was always willing to help anyone who asked her whether it be teaching Sunday School and Bible School or helping out at the school. She also started a before and after school program at Immanuel Lutheran in Rosebud. Many young people were touched by her concern and kindness for them. Many came to visit her from time to time.
Graveside services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Rosebud on Saturday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Tim Weiser officiating. Memorials are requested for Immanuel Lutheran Church, School, or a cancer related charity.
