Bertha Schebaum

Bertha Jean Schebaum, 85, of Gerald, Mo., passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019, at her residence.

She was born on Feb. 20, 1934, to John and Mary (Bingaman)  Lamke at Leslie.

She was united in marriage to Del White on Jan. 11, 1957. They were married for 21 years and had four children.  Later in life, she married Vernon (Bing) Schebaum on Nov. 26, 1982, and he passed on Aug. 9, 2001.

Bertha attended Pleasant Hill School and Port Hudson Catholic School.  She was a life time member of Sullivan V.F.W. Aux.  Her first job was a  carhop  at White Castle in St. Louis.  She had worked in several factories and was always a hard worker and a great mother; loved making a garden and playing bingo; donated to many charities; was well respected and loved by many.  She has blessed many of our lives.  Some say, “She was their hero!”

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Lamke; husband, Vernon Schehaum; brothers, Hank and Eddie Lamke; sister, Rose Marie Lamke; and stepdaughter, Christine Johanning.

She is survived by her children, Juanita Harris and fiancé Ray Carroll of Sullivan, Mike White of Sullivan, Richard White of Gerald and Bill White and wife Michelle of Sullivan; stepchildren, Barbara Perry and husband Russell of St. Louis and Chuck Schebaum and fiancé Heather of Owensville; brothers, John Lamke and Benny Lamke and wife Marie all of Union; sisters, Millie Willoughby of Leslie, Mary Newcomb of Boliver and Lida Ellgood of O’Fallon; and 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren..

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 2 at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Gerald with Pastor Ron Koppelmann Jr. officiating.  Burial was in Woodman Cemetery at Leslie.
