For area activities directors, the above saying couldn’t be anymore true after the winter weather that hit the area last week.

Snowed out three nights last week, Belle High School Athletic Director Erik Logan will look to finish the Fourth Annual Belle Boys Basketball Tournament on Saturday with the championship and third-place games.

Scheduled to start last Monday, first-round games were postponed to Wednesday before being canceled again Friday night.

This forced a Saturday quadrupleheader in Belle featuring two first-round games, a consolation semifinal and a championship semifinal.

In the latter of the four games, Todd Rehmert’s Owensville Dutchmen bested Cuba’s Wildcats 69-49 to earn a spot in the tournament championship game scheduled for this Saturday in Belle at 2:30 p.m.

Only one thing remains to be determined.

Their opponent will be decided tonight (Wednesday) when the other championship semifinal between Richland and Chamois is held.

Take away the winter weather and Belle’s Tournament would’ve been done Saturday.

Gasconade County R-2 Activities Director Ryan Okenfuss is also trying to finish the 31st Owensville Tournament from the beginning of January.

Winter weather postponed the third-place and title games nearly two weeks ago and again last Wednesday night when the championship game between Steelville and Linn was supposed to be played.

That tournament will now conclude on Saturday, Feb. 8 (weather permitting) beginning with the third-place game between Salem and St. Clair at 4:30 p.m., followed by the aforementioned title game pitting Linn against Steelville at 6 p.m., at Owensville High School.

With another round of winter weather in the forecast today (Wednesday), Gasconade County R-1 Athletic Director Todd Anderson is hoping that his Hermann Girls Basketball Tournament is not affected by this latest blast of snow.
