Turning 39 on Friday, yours truly will be hoping for some birthday presents from Owensville High School student-athletes over the upcoming weekend.
Friday night, Nathan Cabot’s Owensville Dutchmen will welcome the Cardinal Ritter Lions for a MSHSAA Class 3, District 2 first-round football contest at Dutchmen Field.
Do not let Cardinal Ritter’s 0-3 record deceive you.
They have played bigger schools than them in Francis Howell, Jackson and Helias (Jefferson City).
Quarterbacking the Lions from Cardinal Ritter is TJ Atkins.
Completing 50 percent of his passes, Atkins has thrown for 767 yards through the air with eight touchdowns and two interceptions.
Atkins’ favorite receiving target is Luther Burden III.
He leads the Lions with 17 catches for 429 yards receiving and six touchdowns. Keavion Long is next in the Lion receiving corps with 196 yards through the air on nine catches and a touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, Marlyn Jones lead the Lions with 28 total tackles followed closely with 25 total tackles from Dorian Stone.
In the sack department, Joshua Robinson shows the way for the Lions with two of them.
Hopefully after 48 minutes of football, the Dutchmen will give yours truly a nice birthday present.
