Blaine Schoenfeld joins Century Club

Going into the Marshfield Duals Wrestling Tournament over the weekend, Owensville Dutchmen senior wrestler Blaine Schoenfeld found himself two wins away from becoming the 14th wrestler in Owensville High School wrestling history to reach 100 career wins.

In OHS’ third dual of the tournament against St. James, Schoenfeld pinned Tiger grappler Donnie Wehmeier in :28 to earn the milestone victory.

Defeating St. James 36-12 in that dual, Owensville also got wins from Tighe Bombach at 132 points, Kolby Jahnsen and 138 pounds, Zach Adams at 160 pounds, Hunter Hutchison at 182 pounds and Joe Bauer at 285 pounds.

Starting their day at Marshfield, Owensville faced off against Liberty North.

Even though OHS fell as a team 78-6, Jahnsen spoiled the shutout with a win by fall in 1:18 over Jack Templeton at 138 pounds.

Falling in their respective bouts against Liberty North were David Vincent (106), Bombach (132), Alan Kopp (152), Adams (160), Schoenfeld (170), Hutchison (182) and Bauer (220).

Taking on the host Blue Jays from Marshfield next, Owensville also fell 78-6 with Schoenfeld denying MHS a shutout with a win by fall over Wyatt Wilsey in 2:33.

After their dual win over St. James, OHS took on Poplar Bluff’s Mules in their fourth dual of the day.

Dropping the dual as a team 62-6, Schoenfeld played shutout spoiler once again with a win by fall in :30 over John Smothers.

Closing the tournament against School of the Osage, three Dutchmen grapplers picked up victories during a 51-18 dual loss.

Kopp picked up his first win of the day pinning Osage’s Evan O’Shea in :45. Adams (160) and Hutchison (182) also picked up victories wrestling unopposed.

Monday night, Owensville hosted Potosi and Sullivan in a rescheduled tri-meet from Thursday night that was cancelled due to weather and originally supposed to be held in Sullivan.

In the opening dual of the meet, OHS faced off against the Trojans.

Bauer and Vincent both earned wins by forfeit.

In the first contested bout, Dezmyn Moore took on Potosi’s Austyn Edmiston at 120 pounds.

Controlling the entire match, Moore won a 5-0 decision giving the Dutchmen a 15-6 lead before Potosi won the next three matches grabbing a 24-15 lead.

Jahnsen snapped the Trojan streak wrestling unopposed.

After Kopp was pinned in 1:24, Adams pinned Potosi’s Levi Courtney in 3:16 before Schoenfeld earned a win by forfeit.

Hutchison was pinned in 3:38 and Potosi was unopposed at 195 pounds giving them a 42-33 dual victory over the host Dutchmen.

Sullivan opened their portion of the tri-meet in the second dual defeating the Trojans, 67-12.

Closing the tri-meet was a dual between OHS and Sullivan.

Falling to the Eagles 55-22, Owensville picked up wins from Caden Baker at 132 pounds (forfeit), Jahnsen by technical fall at 145 pounds, Schoenfeld by technical fall at 170 pounds and Bauer by fall in 3:09 at 220 pounds.

In a road quad meet at Southern Boone last Tuesday, OHS fell to the host Eagles 53-18, Fatima 48-30 and Moberly 54-28.

Scoring wins for Owensville at that meet were Moore, Bombach, Jahnsen, Boston Belk, Schoenfeld, Kopp, Bauer and Adams.

OHS’ road to Mizzou Arena and the MSHSAA Wrestling Championships will begin this weekend in district action at Marshall.
