Bland Community Park concession stand vandalized

BLAND — Bland’s Community Park concession stand was vandalized Thursday night, with various items and equipment stolen, according to Park Board President Lee Nielsen.

“Apparently they got in by taking screws off an outer window and climbing in that way,” Nielsen explained. “Then proceeded to steal a lot of the food from the youth baseball league.”

Nielsen said a new volleyball net and other various pieces of equipment they were storing in the building to set up in time for Family Day were also missing.

“It really hurt the baseball league really bad,” Nielsen said. “Little guys come out to have fun and parents try to help. Now they have to buy supplies twice that they never sold.”

The park board filed a burglary report with the Gasconade County Sheriff’s Department Friday morning. According to the report, person(s) unknown forcibly entered the concession stand. However, there is no further information available currently.

“The park board will recover, but the ball league will take a bit longer,” Nielsen said. “I have not been in touch with the league president about taking security measures,” Nielsen said. “But this was pure vandalism.”

A “large” knife was also located outside the facility in the children’s play area.

“That could have lead to more trouble,” Nielsen said.

Tuesday morning Nielsen said that he does not think the sheriff has any leads on the case, but he is assuming it was probably minors.

“Someone knows who did it, and we are hoping that person will come forward,” Nielsen said. “If we find out who they were, we will prosecute to the fullest degree.”
