Owensville’s Public Works director on Aug. 1 was granted approval by the Board of Aldermen to order $69,348 worth of supplies for a water line replacement project.
Jeff Fahrenholtz told aldermen the project will include replacing cast iron water lines underneath six blocks of city streets. The Columbia-based firm Core & Main submitted the lowest quote for materials sought out of three suppliers. Timing, he said, was crucial if the city hoped to complete the project this fall with a projected starting time of late August or early September, “when we can stay steady on it,” said Fahrenholtz.
The project includes replacing water lines for a block of Fifth Street from Highway 28 to West Jefferson, the block of West Jefferson from Fifth to 28, and Sixth Street from West Jefferson at Casey’s to Jackson. Concrete swales will also be replaced as needed in the work zone and the street will be repaved. Core & Main officials told the city they could fill the order in a timely manner, Fahreholtz told aldermen.
Prices quoted by two other firms for the needed materials ranged from $72,857 to $76,656.
