‘Bot of Steel’ in action at FIRST Tech Challenge

Owensville High School “Bot of Steel” operators (far left, from left) Justin Roethemeyer, Connor Lang and Jacob Hall maneuver their machine (middle, on left) to move the “mineral” balls and squares toward the blue square in the corner of arena to score points during an “S-Division” semifinal match with their alliance partners from Grain Valley, Mo. This is the second full year of competition for the OHS robotics program and the first with two separate teams. The OHS program competed in one match three years ago in their first venture into robotics and had one team last year. This is the first time an OHS team has advanced through a qualifying tournament for a state-level championship match. OHS received a plaque as a finalist and was ranked 13th overall out of 48 teams in point standings at the end of the tournament. As a finalist, OHS was in the top six teams in their division and in the top 12 between the two divisions. Coach Kevin Lay and mentor Nick Geisert (left) speak after the semifinal loss to bot operators Roethemeyer, Lang and Hall.
