Building a blessing box to help the hungry

Posted

The Gerald Venturing Crew were up to their good deeds again this weekend in Gerald.

Four members met at Tina’s Treasures to install a blessing box. These boxes are springing up around the country to help hungry people find food.

The box is located directly under the business’s sign at 330 W. Fitzgerald.

The Venturing Crew has been looking for a location for their blessing box for several months with no luck. Finally, they ran into Tina Bauguess, owner of Tina’s Treasures. Bauguess jumped at the opportunity.

“I am always willing to lend a helping hand,” Bauguess noted. “I can’t give money, but I can give clothing, household items or furniture to someone in need.”

The food blessing box is a perfect complement to that credo and a welcome addition to her location.

In addition to shelf stable food items, the box also contains hygiene items like soap, shampoo and feminine hygiene products.

The venturing crew will also once again be a part of the Scouting for Food program in November. This food drive is sponsored by the Boy Scouts, the parent organization for the coed Venturing Crew.

But that’s not all.

The Venturing Crew is also planning a free Thanksgiving dinner open to the public at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Thanksgiving day. Community Outreach will again donate much of the food.

This summer, the group did some volunteer work at the Gerald Area Library.

If you like seeing good things happen in town, support these kids.
