Celebrating Missouri’s Bicentennial at the Fair

OWENSVILLE — Fair attendees will once again enjoy the tradition of the Gasconade County Fair, Wednesday, July 27 through Saturday, July 31. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Missouri’s Bicentennial at the Fair.”

This year’s festivities begin Wednesday, July 28, with Zoo for You’s petting zoo opening at 4 p.m. and closing at 10 p.m. These are the hours of operation for the zoo each night, Wednesday-Friday. The opening ceremony and Outstanding Community Service Awards presentation start at 6 p.m. Also at 6 p.m., the Exhibit Hall opens and Big C’s Enterprises’ carnival rides get moving. Carnival rides run each night from 6-11 p.m. as well as from 1-5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. 

Little Mr. and Little Miss Gasconade County contestants will see how they fare up to each other at 6:30 p.m. Gasconade County Fair Queen contestants learn their fates afterwards. Entry forms for the queen competition can be found on Page 8. Rafter 7P Rodeo Productions bull-riding and barrel-racing begins at 7:30 p.m.

Livestock competitions begin Thursday at 9 a.m. with a market barrow and gilt show, followed by a swine show. A 4-H bucket calf show is at 10 a.m. and a Pee Wee Bucket Calf Show goes after. The Exhibit Hall is open Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., except for during the parade.

Afternoon activities on Thursday kick off with a dairy cattle show at 1 p.m. The Gasconade County Fair Parade will once again grace First Street at 5:30 p.m. A steer show takes place at 7 p.m. The Demolition Derby will be held in the lower field at 7:30 p.m.

More livestock competitions will be held Friday, starting with a beef cattle breeds show at 8:30 a.m. and a sheep and goat show at 9 a.m. Ozark Highlanders Association and SMTTPA Truck and Tractor Pull are at 5 and 7 p.m., respectively, followed by the Farm Pull. Sign-ups for a 6 p.m. pedal tractor pull are at 5:30 p.m. at the Pavilion, north of grandstand, for ages 3-10. A sheep and goat costume expedition is set for 7 p.m.

The Gasconade Timing Association (GTA) Car Show starts Saturday’s activities at 8 a.m. at the lower ball field. The 26th Annual BBQ Cook-off commences at noon. A corn hole tournament will be held at the lower beer garden from 12-6 p.m. The youth livestock sale is at 3 p.m. and sign-ups for the 5 p.m. Kiddy’s Nickel Scramble start at 4 p.m. on the north side of the sheep barn. The Missouri Farm Pullers and MMTTPA/MSTPA Truck and Tractor Pull begin at 7 p.m.
