Sunday evening (Feb. 23) the Owensville Fire Department was called to structure fire at the intersection of Farris Road and Uncle Sam Road south of Owensville off Highway EE. When firemen arrived the 100+-year-old structure was fully engulfed. According to neighbors, the building has not been occupied for over 50 years. The exterior walls were constructed of poured concrete. With the building surrounded by brush firemen first tried, unsuccessfully, to attack the fire from Farris Road by spraying water with the main pumper. Due to wet conditions and no solid road base they used brush trucks to spray water on the brush and a dead tree to keep there fire contained to the house. The fire is believed to have been caused by a controlled burn held on the property earlier in the day. No one was injured. Terrence Jordan is listed as the owner.
