Ceremony marks completion of Springfield Road re-connector

Posted

Staff of Rolla-based Archer-Elgin and Don Maggi Construction (far left) gathered Friday morning with city of Owensville staff and elected officials (center), along with representatives of the county, R-2 School District and Lakeside Book Company for a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting for the Springfield Road reconnection and realignment project. City funds along with a Missouri Department of Transportation grant were used to reconnect Springfield with Old Highway 19 north of  Lakeside’s employee parking lot. John Kamler, the city’s former mayor and his wife, Lisa, joined city officials for the ceremony. McFadden noted in prepared remarks the project to abandon the old roadway for a warehouse building addition was a “unique cooperative agreement” between the city and Lakeside (then LSC Communications) with a negotiated agreement to allow for a new roadway across a portion of the printing firm’s employee parking. He credited prior LSC management and current Lakeside Book personnel for “continuing to be a valuable member of our city’s business landscape” and added, “Your commitment to Owensville by reinvesting in your facility and dedication to the residents by your civic involvement is greatly appreciated.” He also credited MoDOT, Maggi Construction and Archer-Elgin for developing the new roadway. City staff also received mention for their work on securing grant funding and handling the duties of managing the financial aspects of the construction project.
