Chamois couple charged with 3 counts of child endangerment

Posted

Marvin G. Charlton Jr., 45, and Danielle L. Charlton, 36, of Chamois, have each been charged with three counts of felony endangering the welfare of a child involving drugs in the first degree and possession of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoid following a Dec. 2 search of the couple’s residence.

According to a probable cause statement filed by the Mid Missouri Drug Task Force (MMDTF), the search came after the MMDTF assisted the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Children’s Division workers with a child abuse hotline report of drug use in the home.

Consent was granted to search by the couple and officers located a glass smoking pipe containing a white crystal substance.

Marvin and Danielle Charlton admitted to using methamphetamine two days previous to the search. Marvin produced two glass smoking pipes with a white crystal substance from the pocket of a coat hanging in the room. While talking to Danielle and Marvin, an officer moved a pair of women’s pants that were hanging in the middle of the room, at which time a plastic bag containing white powder fell out.

The white substance in the pipes and the plastic bag later tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

Marvin and Danielle stated they would test positive for methamphetamine if they were given a urine analysis, according to the PC statement. Both told authorities that three juvenile children reside in the residence where the items that tested positive for methamphetamine were located. The children were removed from the home and placed in temporary foster care.

Marvin and Danielle Charlton were taken to the Osage County Jail, where they are being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond each.
