Charles Alfred Claas, 87, of Beaufort, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Frene Valley, Owensville.

He was born July 31, 1933 , to Carl Alfred and Frieda (Shaw) Claas in Leslie.

He was united in marriage to Fern R. Ruegge March 11, 1961 in Bay.

Charles proudly served his country with the U.S. Army (SCARWARS) branch. He worked at McDonnell Douglas as an aircraft mechanic on the flight line for many years and was a member of the Aerospace Machinist Union in St. Louis. He was an avid dirt track racer for many years and in 1962 was Late Model Champion at Highland Speedway in Highland, Ill. He loved Fords, Nascar, and shooting pool with his buddies.

He is preceded in death by parents, Carl and Frieda Claas; daughter, Sandra (Claas) Gargus; and brothers, Harold L. Claas and Jerry C. Claas.

He is survived by wife, Fern, of the home; daughter, Sharon Moyer of Boiling Springs, S.C.; sister, Betty McGowan and husband Rich of Bourbon; granddaughters, Theresa (Gargus) Borgmann and husband Todd of Monett and Kylie Moyer of Boiling Springs, S.C.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 9, at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home Chapel in Owensville with Pastor Todd Borgmann officiating. Burial was held in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Owensville.
