City to close Springfield Road for LSC project starting Oct. 28

Posted

As of next Wednesday (Oct. 28)  Springfield Road will be closed south of the city’s industrial park as construction begins on the addition to the LSC Communications plant.

This closure, scheduled to last through the duration of the construction, will restrict through traffic traveling north toward the R-2 School District’s campus and residences along Old Highway 19 north of the old Rock Island railroad bed.

Access to the industrial park off of Springfield Road onto Industrial Drive will also be eliminated until a new bypass road is completed. Access to the park will be limited to travel coming off of Highway 19.

City officials on Monday approved a plan to restrict on-street parking on both sides of East Springfield Road which will become an alternate route to access Highway 19 for through traffic back-and-forth from town to the schools normally carried on Springfield/Old 19. Residents living north of the old rail bed will have to access their properties off of Highway 19 onto Old 19 north of the overpass.

“The City of Owensville will be closing Springfield Road just south of the industrial park to allow for construction to begin on the new LSC building addition,” according to a letter from Mayor John Kamler which was released Tuesday morning. “All lanes will be closed both directions until the project is completed. The industrial park can be accessed from Highway 19 from both north and south lanes. In addition, no parking signs will be placed on both sides of East Springfield Road which can be used as an alternate route to access Highway 19, which again leads to the industrial park. Residents or businesses north of the rail road tracks will also have to access to their properties from Highway 19. Thank you for your patience and understanding during the construction process.”
