Mercy ruling St. James (12-0) and St. Clair (13-3) in their previous two Four Rivers Conference (FRC) softball contests, Hannah Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirls looked improve their FRC record to 5-1 with a win over Pacific Thursday afternoon.

Thanks to a three-run bottom of the sixth inning, OHS posted just their second win over Pacific in the last 11 years by a score of 4-3.

“This was a huge win for our program,” Koppelmann said. “We just kept battling and I’m proud of the girls who never gave up.”

Trailing 2-0 after the top of the first inning, Owensville got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Paige Loyd reached on an error and scored on a Kaitlin Nelson RBI ground out cutting Pacific’s lead to 2-1 after three innings.

Pacific got that run back in the top of the fourth inning before Owensville’s aforementioned rally in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Starting with a one-out triple from Halie Boyer, Anna Finley followed with a RBI single scoring the Dutchgirl catcher trimming Pacific’s lead to 3-2.

Looking to help her own cause, Addison Wright singled moving Finley up a base.

Second baseman Paige Bossaller then delivered a clutch hit in a two-RBI double scoring Finley and Wright giving OHS their first lead of the game.

Striking out the side in the top of the seventh, Wright finished with 12 strikeouts in Owensville’s 4-3 victory over the Lady Indians.

Monday night, OHS dropped a 13-2 decision to Fatima at home.
