Conference, district titles up for grabs

Throughout the upcoming week, conference and district titles will be decided in football, cross country, and volleyball.

Originally scheduled for yesterday at New Haven City Park (Tuesday), the Four Rivers Conference (FRC) Cross Country meet was postponed to tomorrow (Thursday) due to rain that fell Sunday, Monday and last night (Tuesday) throughout the area.

Based on results from earlier meets this season, Dutchgirl harriers Ilene Limberg and Mekayla Gibson are favored to win their respective races in middle school and varsity girls.

Friday night, another FRC title will be on the line in football when Nathan Cabot’s Owensville Dutchmen head to the dog pound in St. Clair to face the host Bulldogs.

Neither team has lost a FRC game and this contest will also have huge implications when it comes to the seeding of the MSHSAA Class 3, District 2 Tournament scheduled to begin on Friday, Oct. 30.

Next Monday and Tuesday at Owensville High School, the MSHSAA Class 3, District 3 Volleyball Tournament will be contested.

Jamie Ridenhour’s Dutchgirls have a legitimate shot at winning their first district title since 1979.

Teams standing in their way will be St. Clair, St. James, Sullivan and Cuba.

All in all, it should be an exciting and eventful week to come with plenty of conference and district hardware to be handed out.
