County track squads team up to win Osage-Maries Challenge

Track squads from Bland, Belle and Vienna teamed up last Monday to take on Linn and Chamois during the annual Osage-Maries Challenge Track Meet held at the Linn Athletic Complex.

After the final athlete crossed the finish line, Maries County defeated Osage County by a combined score of 587-328 with middle and high school team scores figured.

In the middle school portion of the meet, Vienna won both the boys and girls 4x800-meter relay races with Eagle athletes Julianna Davis, Sierra Kilmer, Amber Loomis, Payton Martin, Eli Betzner, Thomas Douglas, Tyler Lekey and Iven Rollins competing.

Vienna High School also picked points for Maries County winning the boys 4x800m relay in 10:28.49 and placing second in the girls 4x800m relay in 13:34.19.

VHS athletes in the 4x800m relay included Cameren Doyel, Jillian Fick, Danielle Murphy, Alia Terwilliger, Dylan Limbach, Evan Casey, Sam Douglas and Duncan Wilkinson.

Middle school hurdle races saw Vienna’s Aubrey Reeves (1st) and Bland’s Cylee Reed (2nd) take the top two spots in the 100-meter hurdles.

Zachary Via (1st) and Waylon Lenning (4th) placed in the top four of the middle school boys 100m hurdles for Vienna.

Madeleine Novak placed fourth for Vienna in the high school girls 100m hurdles while Mike Andrews (1st) and Kamden George (2nd) scored points for Maries County in the high school boys 100m hurdles.

Sprinting to points in the middle school 100m dash were Vienna’s Lakayela Parmeley (1st), Bland’s Piper Marsee (2nd) and Bland’s Brayden Barzee (5th).

Andrea Novak and Tori Schulte placed first and second in the HS girls 100m dash for Vienna while Andrews (1st), Jehoshua Casey (2nd) and Garret Jones (6th) placed for Vienna in the boys 100m dash. Belle’s Wyatt Kottwitz was also fifth in the 100m dash.

VMS won both the boys and girls 4x200-meter relay races. Competing athletes included Brook Mercer, Parmeley, Jaedyn Schell, Madison Weeks, Douglas, Alberto Esquivel, Lenning and Caden Rosentreter.

VHS’ girls 4x200m relay team of Elizabeth Veasman, Aliyah Griffin, Madeleine Novak and Terwilliger placed second while the VHS boys 4x200m relay team of TJae Schell, Tyler Gerstacker, Jackson Kilmer and Jehoshua Casey won their race.

Placing second was the Belle boys 4x200m relay team of Adrien Hoehne, Baylar Smith, Myles Butler and Kottwitz.

VMS’ Aubrey Reeves and Cooper Auten won their respective 1600-meter run races while Reed placed second for Bland’s Lady Bears and Landon Finn also placed fourth for the Bears in their respective mile races.

Loomis, Mercer, Parmeley and Schell teamed up for VMS to win the girls 4x100-meter relay.

VHS senior Caleb Horman ended his Osage-Maries Challenge career placing second in the 800, 1600 and 3200m runs.

Evan Casey, Danniel Casey, Sam Douglas and Jackson Kilmer sprinted to victory in the HS boys 4x100-meter relay.

Madison Weeks won the MS girls 400-meter dash for Vienna with Marsee (Bland) and Sierra Kilmer (Vienna) placing second and third respectively.

Malcom Rowden won the MS boys 400m dash for Vienna while Schulte and Wyatt Coons swept the top spots in the HS boys and girls 400m dash races.

Andrews won the HS 300-meter hurdles for Vienna while Payton Martin and Auten swept the MS 800-meter runs for VMS.

Reed placed second for Bland in the MS girls 800m run while Finn finished sixth for the Bears.

Field events winners from Maries County included Weeks, Alex Zimmer, Max Steffen, Auten, Riley Rosentreter, Jaedyn Schell, Rowden, Claudia Wieberg, Aubrey Rehmert, Susie Moman, Danniel Casey and Ava Kloeppel.
