COVID-19 at it again

As we move into the winter sports season, COVID-19 has already impacted numerous sports schedules within the Gasconade County R-2 School District.

Take away a positive COVID-19 test by an Owensville Middle School staff member, the OMS Dutchmen basketball team would have two games under their belts by the time this edition of The Gasconade County Republican hit newsstands today.

Instead, their Highway 28 showdown with Bland’s Bears from Monday night and their Four Rivers Conference (FRC) opener from last night (Tuesday) on the road at New Haven were canceled.

It it unlikely the Bland game will be made up as it was the last scheduled game of the season for the Bears. However, a make-up date for the New Haven game is currently being worked on.

OMS Dutchmen basketball’s new season opener will now be on Thursday, Dec. 3 against Steelville at Owensville Elementary School.

Cuba’s current quarantine status will affect Owensville Dutchmen basketball’s schedule in early December.

Originally scheduled to face the Wildcats on Tuesday, Dec. 1, Cullen Van Leer’s Dutchmen saw that game postponed and reschedule for Tuesday, Dec. 22 beginning at 5:30 p.m., with the junior varsity contest.

OMS Dutchmen wrestling also saw their schedule impacted.

Last night’s (Tuesday) meet at St. James was postponed and has since been rescheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 9 with a 5 p.m., start time at St. James Middle School.
