Cynthia Lynn DeVore, 51, Owensville, passed away Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, at her residence, surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous nine-year battle with cancer.
She was born Nov. 21, 1968, to Jerry and Sharon (Smith) Maness in Hot Springs, Ark.
She was united in marriage to Angela Kurgas, June 20, 2014, in Edwardsville, Ill.
When Cynthia was born in 1968, the American Psychiatric Association still considered homosexuality to be a mental illness. When she passed on Nov. 14, her loving and devoted wife was by her side, holding her hand. Cynthia persevered through an era which had not quite accepted her, raising four kids along the way. She was endlessly fascinated with American History, the Civil War, and Abraham Lincoln. She served as an election judge and devoted lots of time to rescuing animals and rehabilitating them for domestic life. She was a phenomenal cook and always enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her beloved grandchildren. Cynthia lived her life with a warm, welcoming heart, and she was accepting of everyone.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Maness; and grandparents, Coy and Eleanor Smith.
She is survived by wife, Angela, of the home; mother, Sharon Rackley of Hot Springs, Ark.; children, Ashlee Wilson and husband Dale of Little Rock, Ark., Caleb DeVore and Becca McAley and Evan DeVore and wife Brianne, all of Hot Springs, Ark., Jared DeVore of Albany, N.Y., and Jacob Kurgas and Nathan Kurgas, both of Union; brother, Jerry Maness and wife Kristy of Hot Springs, Ark.; sisters, Tami Teague and husband Timmy of Hot Springs, Ark., Kerrie Leek and Larisa Sweet, both of San Diego, Calif., and Rachel Brown and husband Mike of Paragould, Ark.; and grandchildren Lucy Lynn DeVore, Daniel Arthur DeVore and Sophia Anna Lynn DeVore.
Visitation will be (today) Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 9-11 am at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Owensville. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Chapel with Pastor Shane Jarvis officiating. Burial will be in Countryside Memorial Gardens in Owensville.
